Angela G.,
Warehouse Supervisor, Castle Metals
Joined Castle:
July 2000
Grew up in:
Chicago, Illinois
Education:
1 year of college
Career background:
Previously worked at GM, so was unfamiliar with the metals distribution business. Joined Castle as
traffic supervisor, promoted to a front-line supervisor on the floor, then moved into current role.
Current responsibilities:
First-shift supervisor at Castle’s main warehouse, responsible for receiving, unloading, and unloading. This
includes deliveries of materials to the warehouse and shipment of materials out to customers and to Castle’s
district warehouses. Manages 15 employees.
What I like most about my job:
"I love working with my employees and helping them learn to get the work done in a timely and efficient
manner. Each day, I need to think about what we need to accomplish and how we can make everything flow easily
through the warehouse. It’s like a big puzzle. At first it was kind of mind-boggling, but once I got the hang
of it and made it my passion, I was able to make it all work."
About Castle:
"It’s very different from my previous jobs. I had to learn new systems, new processes, new ways of doing things - and
that continues. I like the fact that there’s lots to think about every day, and that I interact with people from so many
areas - sales, dispatching, outside truckers, and of course my team and the other shifts!"
Next career goal:
"I’d like to get more involved in training - it’s so important for people to learn their jobs in a positive way
rather than just being thrown out there and told to figure it out. If they get the right training up front and learn
the hows and whys of what we do, they’ll develop a passion for the work and be successful."
What I do for fun:
Bowling, spending time with her granddaughter
